नादिचि
लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी 126 · प्रकरण 5, which opens at अर्थवदधातुरप्रत्ययः प्रातिपदिकम् · rule 12 of 100 in it
no single-long substitute when the case ending begins with a vowel other than अ
न आदिचि — "not when the beginning is an इच्". The single homorganic long vowel that 6.1.102 प्रथमयोः पूर्वसवर्णः puts in for a stem-vowel plus a nominative or accusative ending does not apply when that ending begins with an इच् — any vowel other than अ (the इच् set: इ उ ऋ ऌ ए ओ ऐ औ). So before the dual ending औ there is no merger: प्रत्यासन्न + औ stays प्रत्यासन्नौ "the two brought near", the vowels joining by वृद्धि rather than by the single long.
