साम आकम्

लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी 327 · प्रकरण 8, which opens at हो ढः · rule 78 of 108 in it

after युष्मद्/अस्मद् the genitive-plural साम् becomes आकम्

The genitive plural of युष्मद् and अस्मद् is not the plain आम् an ordinary noun takes. First the सुट् augment of 7.1.52 turns आम् into साम् (an inserted स्); then, after just these two pronouns, this rule replaces that साम् with आकम्. So युष्मद् → युष्माकम्, “of you all,” and अस्मद् → अस्माकम्, “of us all.” Beside these full forms the same case has the unaccented enclitic वः and नः (8.1.21), used when the word leans on what comes before it; वः in “या वः काले” is the enclitic of युष्माकम्.
