तीषसहलुभरुषरिषः

लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी 656 · प्रकरण 17, which opens at तुदादिभ्यः शः · rule 7 of 15 in it

इष्, सह्, लुभ्, रुष्, रिष् take the इट् augment optionally

After the roots इष् "wish", सह् "bear", लुभ् "covet", रुष् "be angry" and रिष् "harm", a वलादि आर्धधातुक — a derivational affix beginning with a consonant — takes the augment इट् (the propping इ-) optionally (वा), carried down from the rules before it. So these roots may join such an affix bare or with इ between. अन्वेष्टव्यैः "by those to be sought", from अनु + इष् with the तव्य suffix, takes the bare option, setting तव्य straight on the root. The derivation names this rule on the silent step where the इट् is withheld under the option.
