शासिवसिघसीनां च

The स of the roots शास् "to rule", वस् "to dwell" and घस् "to eat" is replaced by the retroflex ष after a sound of the इण् set (the vowels and semivowels other than अ, and ह्) or of the क-class. वस् in the past participle takes the augment इ before its क्त, and after that vowel its स turns to ष: वस् + इत → उषित, and with the prefix प्र, प्रोषित — प्रोषितानाम् "of those who dwelt abroad".
