शश्छोऽटि

श् after a stop optionally becomes छ् before a vowel, semivowel or ह्

A श् that follows a झय् (a stop) optionally becomes छ् when an अट् sound — a vowel, a semivowel, or ह् — follows. So तत् + शिवः, once the द्/त् of the first word has become च् (by श्चुत्व and खरि च), gives तच् + शिवः, and this rule turns the श् into छ्: तच्छिवः (or the unchanged तच्शिवः). It is the doubled छ् heard after a stop, the consonant-side counterpart of छे च (6.1.73), which does the same after a short vowel.
