the eighteen personal endings (तिङ्) that replace a verb's tense-marker (लकार)
This one sūtra names, in a single run, all eighteen verbal personal endings — the तिङ् set — that stand in for the abstract tense-marker (लकार) a verb first receives. Nine are parasmaipada (active): तिप् तस् झि, सिप् थस् थ, मिप् वस् मस्; nine are ātmanepada (middle): त आताम् झ, थास् आथाम् ध्वम्, इट् वहि महिङ् — three persons against singular, dual and plural in each voice. Every finite verb in the poem takes one: चक्रे "he did" reaches the ātmanepada त, रुणद्धि "he obstructs" the parasmaipada तिप्, द्रक्ष्यसि "you will see" the सिप्. It is the verb's counterpart to 4.1.2, which lists the noun's सुप् endings.
