इण् 'to go' keeps its short इ before a लिङ् affix after a preverb

The root इण् "go" (एति "he goes", एतेः "of इण्"), when a preverb (उपसर्ग) stands before it, keeps its इ short before a य-initial लिङ् affix marked कित् or ङित् — the endings of the benedictive (आशीर्लिङ्). The rule carries down ह्रस्वः "short" and उपसर्गात् "after a preverb" from the sūtras before it, and holds इण् to its short vowel where the ordinary account would lengthen it. परीयाः "may you cross over", परि + इ + यास्, keeps the short इ by this rule; by the time the chain reaches it the vowel is already short, so it is named on a silent step.
