क्विन्प्रत्ययस्य कुः

लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी 303 · प्रकरण 8, which opens at हो ढः · rule 54 of 108 in it

a क्विन्-formed stem takes a क-varga final at word-end

A stem formed with the क्विन् affix has its final consonant replaced by the matching क-varga sound (कुत्व) at पदान्त: ऋत्विज् (from यज् + क्विन्) → ऋत्विक्/ऋत्विग्, दिश् → दिक्/दिग्. Because the substitution is treated as not-yet-done (असिद्ध) toward चोः कुः, the च-varga of such a stem also turns to क-varga. So a क्विन् word ends in a guttural before a pause or a consonant.
