अहन्'s रु becomes र् except before a case ending

The रु that अहन् takes by 8.2.68 becomes a plain र् when it does not stand before a सुप् (a case affix) — that is, inside a compound or before a reduplicated word: अहरहः "day after day", अहर्गणः "a run of days". Before a case ending the रु is left to become visarga or ओ instead (अहः, अहोभ्याम्), so the -र् surfaces only in composition.
