8.3.110

न रपरसृपिसृजिस्पृशिस्पृहिसवनादीनाम्

Laghu-siddhāntakaumudī does not carry this rule. It stands in the Aṣṭādhyāyī at 8.3.110, and the abridgement is 1,269 of Pāṇini's 3,983 rules — so this is a place where the poem runs past the textbook.

no retroflex ष for र-preceded स, and for सृप्, सृज्, स्पृश्, स्पृह् and the सवनादि roots

The retroflexion of स to ष, which follows an इण् sound or a guttural, does not take place when the स is preceded by र, nor in the roots सृप् "to creep", सृज् "to release", स्पृश् "to touch", स्पृह् "to long for", or a root of the सवनादि group. So the स of स्पृश् is kept: स्पृष्टम् "touched". The derivation names the rule on the silent step where the retroflex is not substituted. This rule stands outside the Laghu-siddhāntakaumudī abridgement.
