टेः

लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी 241 · प्रकरण 7, which opens at अतोऽम् · rule 9 of 17 in it

before a ड्-marked affix, the final vowel of the stem (its टि) is dropped

टि is a stem's last vowel together with whatever consonant follows it. Before an affix marked with ड् (a डित्), the टि of a bha-stem is elided. The pronoun अन्य, in the neuter, has its nominative-accusative singular replaced by अद्ड् (7.1.25), an affix marked ड्; this rule then drops the stem's final अ, so अन्य + अत् gives अन्यत्, 'other'. The same yields कतरत्, कतमत्, इतरत् and अन्यतरत् — the five डतर-etc. pronouns ending in -त् in the neuter where an ordinary a-stem would end in -म्.
