7.2.14

श्वीदितो निष्ठायाम्

Laghu-siddhāntakaumudī does not carry this rule. It stands in the Aṣṭādhyāyī at 7.2.14, and the abridgement is 1,269 of Pāṇini's 3,983 rules — so this is a place where the poem runs past the textbook.

श्वि and ई-marked roots take no इट् in the निष्ठा

The root श्वि "to swell" and every root marked with ई as its इत् (an ईदित् root) take no इट् — the इ the augment would insert — in the निष्ठा, the participles in क्त and क्तवतु. So the ई-marked मद् (मदी), जन् (जनी) and यत् (यती) form प्रमत्तः "heedless", जातम् "born" and आयत्तम् "dependent" with no इट्: मद् + त gives मत्त, not मदित. The derivation names the rule on the silent step where the इट् augment is refused. This rule stands outside the Laghu-siddhāntakaumudī abridgement.
