A ष् or a ढ् is replaced by क् when a स follows. Roots whose final consonant has already become one of these meet the स of a future or aorist ending and harden to क्. वह् "to carry", whose ह् becomes ढ before the ending, gives वढ् + स्य + ति → वक्ष्यति "he will carry" (the क् and the स together read as क्ष). दृश् "to see", whose श् becomes ष, gives द्रष् + स्य + सि → द्रक्ष्यसि "you will see".
