a neuter replaces the nominative and accusative plural जस्/शस् with शि

In a neuter (क्लीब) stem the nominative-plural ending जस् and the accusative-plural ending शस् are both replaced by शि, the ending ई. शि is a सर्वनामस्थान, so it draws the नुम् augment on the stem (7.1.72) and lengthens the vowel: फल → फलानि, वन → वनानि, मधु → मधूनि. This is why a neuter's nominative and accusative plural are one and the same form and end in -आनि.
