लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी · वरदराज
7.2.15
यस्य विभाषा
Laghu-siddhāntakaumudī does not carry this rule. It stands in the Aṣṭādhyāyī at 7.2.15, and the abridgement is 1,269 of Pāṇini's 3,983 rules — so this is a place where the poem runs past the textbook.
a root that takes इट् optionally elsewhere takes none in the निष्ठा
A root for which some rule prescribes the इट् augment optionally (विभाषा) takes no इट् at all in the निष्ठा, the participles in क्त and क्तवतु — the option is settled against इट् there. So श्रम्, भ्रम्, सिध् and their like form विश्रान्तः "rested", उद्भ्रान्तः "roaming" and सिद्धः "accomplished" with no इट्. The derivation names the rule on the silent step where the इट् augment is refused. This rule stands outside the Laghu-siddhāntakaumudī abridgement.
