कृत्तद्धितसमासाश्च

लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी 116 · प्रकरण 5, which opens at अर्थवदधातुरप्रत्ययः प्रातिपदिकम् · rule 2 of 100 in it

forms ending in a कृत् or तद्धित affix, and compounds, are प्रातिपदिक too

Forms ending in a कृत् affix (a primary affix that makes a word straight from a root, like क्त in मत्त), in a तद्धित affix (a secondary affix on a noun), and समास (compounds) are also termed प्रातिपदिक — a nominal base. This extends the previous rule's definition. It is why a कृत् form such as प्रमत्त "heedless" (प्र + मद् + क्त) is itself a stem and takes case endings like any noun, and why the indeclinables श्रुत्वा "having heard" and आलिङ्ग्य "having embraced" count as nominal bases before their further treatment.
